Understanding the Certification Workflow

"A deep dive into how Token Guard validates your timepiece and transforms it into a blockchain-secured Digital Product Passport."

The Certification Workflow

Certification is the process by which a "Draft" watch record becomes a "Guard-Protected" digital asset. Here is what happens behind the scenes once you click "Request Certification." This workflow is designed to align with the EU Digital Product Passport (DPP) direction while protecting personal data through hashing and cryptographic proofs.

/1. Initial Screening

Once you submit your request, our automated system performs an initial check. It validates the reference and serial numbers against approved sources such as The Watch Register (paid API) or a brand-declared database managed via Token Guard. Police databases are not accessed. This prevents the certification of known lost or stolen property.

/2. Expert Assignment

Your request is then assigned to a specialist within our Validator Network. These are horological experts with years of experience in specific brands (e.g., a vintage Rolex specialist for older Submariners). The brand remains the legal authority of authenticity; the expert acts as a technical witness who feeds verified data into the system.

/3. Physical Verification & Brand Match (MVP Standard)

Certification is not performed from photos alone. The expert performs a physical inspection of the watch, verifies the secret serial/movement identifiers, and confirms the match against brand archives. Photos are collected only as visual documentation of condition and cosmetics.

/4. On-Chain Minting (The "Mint")

If the expert approves the watch, the Token Guard smart contract is triggered on the Scroll L2 blockchain.

  • A unique NFT is created.
  • The watch's technical metadata and images are "hashed" and stored on IPFS.
  • The Digital Product Passport (DPP) is officially born.

/5. Verification & Sharing

You will receive a notification once the minting is complete. You can then:

  • Download the Certificate: A high-resolution PDF for your physical records.
  • Share the Public Link: A mobile-optimized URL that anyone can use to verify the watch's status.
  • Transfer Ownership: If you sell the watch, you can initiate a secure "Handshake" transfer of the digital certificate to the new owner.

/Lifecycle Summary

| Status | Meaning | | :--- | :--- | | Draft | Watch record is created but not yet submitted. | | Pending certification | Request is submitted and awaiting expert review. | | Validated | Watch is confirmed authentic and the DPP is minted on-chain. | | Rejected | Authenticity could not be confirmed or data was inconsistent. |
